Mosaic Fernwood. Final journals…
October 10, 2004
It took me a while to get all this up, as three days after
FernFest I moved out of Victoria.. so.. things were a tad bit upside
down.. until now...

Mosaic Fernwood's Unveiling Event at the
9th Annual Fern Fest -
August 28th, 2004

At around four o'clock that afternoon the
Flying Accusations played a great set at the festival then they
pipered us to the wall for the mosaic unveiling.

Close to fifty people marched with their neighbours
to the 100 people made Community Unity Mosaic Mural -2424 Chambers

Project ready to be Unveiled
It was a great day and wonderful to see all the
people marching together through the streets of Fernwood to celebrate
this neighbourhood's summer Community Unity project.

By the end of the summer over 130 people participated in this community
art project. Together designing and creating the seven mosaic silhouettes
for the mural and the two mosaic panels for the Fernwood Square.
As Phase I wrapped up it was clear to all that participated just
what Mosaic the City projects are all about: People! People coming
together to learn about each other, to create wonderful pieces of
art that belong to everyone. It's about telling the story of your
area, about coming together as a community to make history.
At Mosaic the City we believe when everyone gives a little
of what they have we all gain a lot. So it is with much
pride and gratitude that we thank all the many volunteers, partnering
groups, businesses large and small that gave what they could to
help make this project a success.
We look forward to Phase II… now the project is in the hands
of the Fernwood people. So with time and much collaboration, the
second part of this Community Unity idea will begin. We are still
looking for a leader for phase II..... Any takers ????/
Look for more information on the garden project for the wall, coming
this spring. We will be looking for native plants, soil and stones
for the small green space in front of the mosaic mural on Chambers
Street.
