Design Layout Workshop
Writing by Shylene Schlackl
July 22, 2004
Today the Youth camp from the Community Centre attended the workshop to help get all the materials prepped and the
silhouette shapes cut out of the paper.
Cutting out images
It is really fun to see all the shapes coming together. This mosaic mural is going to be so cool.
Dude and Tree cut out
They helped organize the huge bunch of ceramic donations Pia had started last day. It is a huge job to organize all this
stuff, but important if we want to know just what we have.
Organizing...
The kids all really wanted to help break up the tiles. So they put on the attractive goggles and started wielding the
hammers. Tile bits flew around and in no time we had containers filled with broken tiles all ready for the mosaics.
Smashing...
Still smashing...
They all helped out a lot and it was great to have their energy on board.
Chill-axin'
Later in the afternoon Susan and her baby came by to lend a hand. The little one fell asleep during the visit. So great to
have a place where people can be creative and calm enough to let a baby catch her afternoon nap. I have really enjoyed
having little kids at this project. I like being able to encourage all ages to get involved. That is really important for
me and my overall vision of Mosaic the City which is totally inclusive.
