February 23, 2006 Meeting of the Team
by Karen Web
The third meeting of the Quadra Mosaic Team was held today in the Mosaic Room of the Annex. It was a good meeting that really got the project a huge step closer. We all left with jobs to do and a lot of excitement.
We will decorate the Mosaic Room with information and pictures of the history of Quadra School. There will be books on mosaic art, First Nations history and art, area history, and other related topics. Shylene will provide information on Mosaic the City and our own library has many volumes that will be useful. The pictures relating to the history of Quadra will come from our archived pictures from the 90th anniversary celebration.
With a lot of animated discussion we chose 11 colours with different shades for some: purple (2), hite, beige, black, blue (2), green (2), red, orange, pink (2) and brown and yellow.
We discussed how the project would be introduced to the students and decided that they would be shown the video at a separate meeting in the library, several classes at a time. This will make the time in the annex on March 1st and 2nd easier to deal with. An outline of the time Shylene would spend introducing the project to students, staff, and parents on the two days was decided upon. We included, vocabulary, what mosaic is, how it is done, what their part in all this is, discussion on what the school/community/neighbourhood means to them, what symbols would they use to show this.
We ended by planning the shape and position of the mosaic on the 6 panels outside James Hendy and Nicole Grant's windows.
