May 30th So we are at the end. All things have come together and now our wonderful art work, made lovingly by so many, is now in the hands of a few good men :) I have to say we were all a bit nervous to hand over our work to these capable men, as we were not sure if they would love and respect it enough, but we kept the faith and held our breath When I arrived early this morning much to my surprise the first panel was up! Wow does it look great or what. The men arrived very early, set up the scaffold and got to work mounting the mosaics. I was happy to see they started with the smallest panel first, as I suggest, giving them a better feel for the process.
Everyone was very impressed with how great the mosaics look outside in natural light and how they look from far away. After all these months of working on the project we were never able to see the panels from the right distance until now - and they look awesome. All the funny details are a little hard to see from the ground, and next time I do a project like this that will be viewed from so far, I will remember this and make fewer details and bigger images to unsure all our work is visible.
All in all the day went well and most panels went up without incident - with the exception of one little green piece - which I dare you to find :) Wow does it look great! And the measuring is right on, but tight. Really there wasn't any room for play - but they fit, they all fit. Very proud! And the mirrored windows are so great, just as we thought. They really add to the life of the piece. Give it movement and tie it together with the surroundings It's already been a huge event to drive up and see the project, up, shining and telling the story of Quadra's history - now up for all to share, enjoy and learn. Not to mention when you are stuck at the light, it attracts your attention and you can't help but stare at it. Perfect. Next is the official unveiling event and UniTEA celebration - June 27th.
